Winter update

Active Travel

We have been making improvements for pedestrians at Gellifaelog Old Road and New Road to enable users to access Newland park safely. This request came through the local access forum.

We are also improving the pedestrian provision outside Twyn school with changes to the existing roundabout.

We want to encourage children and families to walk or cycle to school and we want them to do it safely, with this in mind we are making pedestrian improvements at Dowlais primary also.

We will also be introducing a pedestrian crossing at Thomastown park in the coming weeks.

The Authority now has Moving Traffic Contravention powers and we will be using these to enforce a School street along Caedraw Road. This is likely to be in operation following the Easter holidays.

If you would like to see a pedestrian crossing facility being installed, please email us with further details at active.travel@merthyr.gov.uk

Following the public consultation we held in the Autumn we have requested funding from Welsh government to deliver an Active travel scheme at Penywern ponds in 2025. We should know if we have been successful with this by the end of March.
